  • First travel on AP

I was so busy with work, school, and personal events that I forgot about the process! I don’t even think about the AoS because I’m in Seattle and I know it’ll be probably another year until the interview. So life goes on as usual. It’s time to renew my EAD and I will travel outside the US for the first time since I began the process. I am not very concerned because my situation is pretty standard, with no overstays, violations, criminal record, etc. So, I have 2 questions.

    1. I received my EAD combo in November 2018, valid until Nov 2019. Should I send in the renewal paperwork now? If I do that, is it going to affect my current EAD/AP in any way?
    2. Do I need to do anything special when traveling abroad? It’ll be a short, 10 day trip to my home country in Europe. My husband is obviously a USC and he generally stays in the non-US citizens line with me at the airport so that I don’t wait alone. If they send me to secondary, are they going to send him too?

    thanks!

They changed policy, you can renew EAD/AP without them denying your AP renewal because your are out of the country. So you can start the process.

Nothing special about the travel, just when you return you will be on secondary. I don't know if your husband can go with you. This is standard so don't worry about it.
