Anybody thinking of using 245(i) provisions? it seems it is very useful in this kind of time (of course, if you meet all the requirements).

I have a friend who had to use the 245i for her husband. He worked out of status for many years (he needed the money). It's just like any other I-485, but you fill out one extra form and send an extra $1000. For him it was good, because otherwise he would have had to go home for a few years.
I wouldn't consider working out of status on purpose and then paying $1000 as a penalty later. It seems like a bad deal. Besides, the INS will forgive you if you are unemployed for a short time (like 30 days) without having to pay the extra $1000. -

I am not suggsting to intentionlly go out of status, but as the current state of lay-offs, business closures, etfc., this might helpful in the future.
