  • Questions about Biometrics letter and walking-in

    Hello Everyone,

I'm a June 2019 filer here. Today I received a letter from USCIS with my biometrics appointment scheduled on July 11th next month. I didn't receive any emails from USCIS though and online the case status (on USCIS website) still says Case Was Received for my i765 application and Fingerprint Fee Was Received for the i485 application. There's nothing about the biometrics appointment whatsoever but I received the letter in the mail today with the appointment and instructions.

Could there be some kind of a mistake? Do I need to call them on Monday and ask?

My second question is about the Biometrics walk-in. I would really love to go and do it sooner maybe this coming Monday but that won't be my appointment. What are your experiences with that? Am I taking any risks by doing this? My field office would be in Portland, OR to be more specific if anyone had walking-in experience with them for the biometrics.

Thank you so much and good luck to everyone!

The online site is not always accurate. It could update you a few days later. The letters are more important..
And you can go walk in.

No mistake, there is no email/sms/status update for the biometric letter (maybe the status update is fingerprint fee was received?), they just send it, so that's ok.

From what I read, if you do the walk-in don't ask if you can do it telling you have a latter date, most of the time they will say they don't do walk-ins, but if you just show up, give them the letter and ID they will let you do it. Personally we waited for our date, I don't think it makes much of a difference in most cases.

Now that you have your receipts, go online and open an account in https://myaccount.uscis.gov and https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do there are some options to get SMS/email if the status changes.

You will not get an online notice that they have scheduled your biometrics. It comes by mail only. You may or may not get online confirmation after your appointment that your fingerprints have been processed. I did not get that online notice, others did. You can do a walk-in (I did). Arrive early, have your letter with you (even though its for the wrong date) and it's better if you have a story of why you need to get it done early (travel, other need). They may or may not let you walk-in depending on how busy they are. Also, getting it done early won't necessarily speed up your case. Then again, it can't hurt.

Thank you! so should I hope or expect that the status would update on the website or it doesn't update at all? How was your experience with the biometrics walk-in? Thanks a lot again

Thank you so much Enub4, It's really relieving to hear that the email/status update for the biometric letter doesn't necessarily happen.
I'm really confused as to whether to try to do it walking-in or to wait.. I wonder why does people do it walk-in if it doesn't make any difference time-wise?

I already made an online account on the day I received the NOA letters on June 20th and nothing changed since then even now that I received the biometrics appointment, that was my confusion. Thank you so much for your detailed reply

Also I was just wondering, you have the EAD card right? It's a bit confusing from your signature whether you got it or it was being produced all this time! Thanks again.

Thank you! I'm really wondering now whether do try to do a walk-in or not. I don't understand why do many people do a walk-in if it doesn't speed up their process even a little tiny bit? maybe it's worth trying?

From your signature I'm wondering if you've received your EAD card at all? I understand that it take so long sometimes.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your help and advice

Yes, after EAD being produced we got them 7 days later. I may update the signature, I just don't want it to be too big.

When you walk in, don’t mention anything about your scheduled date. Just give them the paper and your identification. It should be alright. I went to get my bio early morning on a Friday I think. It was empty. I was out after 10minutes. Goodluck! Keep us updated.
