  • I-485 Scheduled Interview and possible clash of trip scheduled outside US

    Hi guys,

I've tried researching on people's experiences of this but most I can find is people asking "can they travel outside the US after their GC interview per se".

So this is my situation. We booked trips to go to the UK, which is scheduled Aug 21st-Sept 4th. We booked originally back in April (and we aware that my GC interview may be scheduled), however, we are from a slower moving LFO so thought we'll take the risk. I'm still in shock we got scheduled so soon because of that reason - slower LFO.

I am hopeful we will get our interview schedule notice at the end of the week/early next week. I'm wandering that if the interview happens to be the 2nd week of September (hypothetically), will it look bad to immigration if we are coming in a few days/week before our scheduled interview? I mean I did plan to bring all paperwork with me, obviously including my combo card EAD/AP. I really want to go back home but my GC is my priority understandably.

    Just looking for advice.

    Thanks,
    J

I was in the same boat. My interview is on Tuesday and I just got back from France a couple weeks ago. I was actually more worried that my interview was going to be scheduled while I was still in France. You can always call USCIS and talk to a Tier 2 officer to get the date of your interview if you want to know for sure. But I don't think they are going to care that you were abroad right before your interview as long as you were using your AP.

I doubt it would look bad to the immigration officers, or what makes you think that? If you are worried just print out the inquiry of your flight and when it was booked. You wouldn’t have known back in April that your interview would be scheduled around those dates.

As long as your interview date is on Sep 5th or later, I don't see any issues.

My husband was out of the country and returned a few days before for his interview. At our interview yesterday, the IO only wanted to make sure my husband used his AP to reentry the country. That was it. You have nothing to worry about.
