  • Courtesy Letter - Civil Surgeon Certified Exam more than 60 Days before Filing I-485

    Hello,

USCIS shows that on 8/22/19, they have scheduled interview for my AOS I-485 (Marriage Based). Currently I am waiting for the notice of the interview date in mail. But today (8/23) I received a "courtesy letter to applicant". The letter says that
"The evidence submitted with your application is deficient for the following reasons :
The civil surgeon certified the exam more than 60 days before the date the applicant filed the Form I-485.
You will be required to submit information and evidence to address the deficiencies.
If you receive an interview notice in the mail, you must bring the information and evidence required to your interview appointment. Failure to bring the information and evidence to your interview appointment may result in denial."

Should I re-do my exam ? I hope there is enough time for me to get the new form done before the interview. Anyone had similar experience ?

    Regards

    Hi,

I haven't had this experience but I believe it means you need to take a new exam, and I think you should be able to do in quickly because you probably took any required vaccinations in the first time so this time it'll be an easy test.

Do you mind if I ask how much did the first medical exam cost you and how long did it take to complete? I haven't taken it yet but should try to take it soon probably. Thank you.

Yes, you need a new one. The letter is saying that the doctor signed on a date that it is more than 60 days for the date they received the I-485 and for that reason your medical exam is not valid (I think that 60 day rule is weird because now it last 2 years if the doctor signed it less than 60 days).

Your interview date should be around September 26, so you have plenty of time.

mnewportland here where I live most doctors asked for $450 or more, found one at $300 but didn't have appointments for 2 weeks so I did ours at $395 (times 3 family members). We had all the required vaccines and it took the clinic 5 business days to get the sealed envelope ready.

          Hi,

Yes you have to update your medical exam. They ask me the same thing.
Compare the prices, because some doctors ask too much even if it's just an update. You won't have to do the blood test, vaccinations, etc because you already did them. So it must be fast. Take the copy of your first medical exam with you and tell them that you only need an update.
