  • EAD/AP combo card RENEWAL rules

Does anyone know if USCIS is super strict regarding the 180 day rule for EAD renewal? Also read on this forum today that the AP renewal timeline is 120 days before date of expiration.. I sent in my renewal application for both EAD and AP combo card about 5 days before the 180 days... I did receive the receipt notice papers for both from USCIS saying that they received my application... if it was a big deal wouldn’t they have told me so or denied my application?

My inital combo card came in less than 3 months after my I-485/I-130/I-765/I-131 applications were sent in... but nothing after my receipt notices for my renewal...
also been waiting for my interview since 8/1/2018.

    SF Field office.

My current combo card expires 10/17/2019 and I have intl travel plans on 10/24/2019....

Anyone have any insight? It kinda sucks because I can’t even submit any case inquiries because it’s not past the date.....

I just read a post from someone who renew the EAD combo card within the 180 days from expiration, and that person received only an EAD card without AP after a month.

I haven't read many renewals complete information (if they get combo or not) so I can't tell what will happen with yours.

I think, because it is free to renew, if you are within the 120 days for the AP, send form I-131 to renew it. Don't know if this is really an option but just an idea. Good luck.

EDIT: Did you send both forms I-765 and I-131? Did you get receipts (NOA) for both?

That doesn’t factor; we sent both forms in, got 797’s for both, but only got an EAD even though both were expired. (Not ‘about to expire’ but Expired)

Thank you. Just to be clear, you had an expired 'combo' card and you received only EAD?

Yes. Both were sent at the same time together with my passport photos and I got NOA for each. The NOA for the I-765 states that it serves as an automatic 180
day extension butvthe NOA for the I-131 specifically says that there is no extension for it.
