  • Can I bring a witness to our marriage based interview?

    Hi,

We just received our interview notice letter today. While gathering everything together to prepare to bring to the interview with us, we wondered if we could bring a witness. My U.S. citizen spouse's sister has a really good relationship with us, and she only lives 5 minutes away. Would it be okay if she came with us to the interview? Will her presence help our case because she is a family member who went to our wedding and spends a lot of time with us?

I don't think it is permitted however, she can write a letter of attestation about your relationship with your spouse.

I have only read that you can go with your lawyer (if you have one on your file) or someone who can translate between English and the language spoken by the beneficiary. I haven't read about a witness only letters like Eda said.

I don't think she can go with you to the interview. I have the understanding only the lawyer can go or the interpreter in case you need one.

No need for her to go. A letter of support is just fine. There is verbiage out there on how to have her write the letter. You can bring it to your interview.

Only lawyer and interpreter are allowed. I don't see the significance of bringing a witness to the interview. Bringing 20 people won't make the marriage look more real.
