  • RFE: Submission in person?

We had our interview last Tuesday and received approval for I-130 today. My lawyer received an RFE on the I-485 as well. The letter says "you must bring the requested information in person to the address shown below on November 1, 2019".

Does this mean I cannot submit it earlier than November 1? That's unfortunate because I really would love to push my case forward...

Separately, my I-693 will only be valid until June 2020. Should I include a new I-693 with this RFE just in case they wait for that long after I submit the requested document on 11/1/2019? What has been your experience on processing time after RFE submission?

    Thank you!

I think you need to follow the instructions. If they say that you have to "bring the requested information in person on November 1, 2019", then you should do that.

You don't have to worry about your I-693. Don't send documents that they didn't request.
Nov 2018 - Package sent - EB - Texas Service Center
Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

What are they requesting? Are you in removal or have inadmissibility issues? Make sure that you go with your lawyer when you take the RFE. Dont worry about the i-693 until it expires. Makes no sense spending the money in case you dont need it.

I had changed my name at a younger age when my parents divorced. All the documents I provided including birth certificate have my current name. They requested a document showing the name change. I wasn't planning on going with my lawyer... but what's the thought behind having the lawyer come? Sounds like I'm just handing the document to them.

Personally I have never heard of USCIS request that a document be hand delivered and then set an appointment for you bring it in. Its probably nothing but it never hurts to take precautions. If you are not in removal or have been ordered removed then you probably have nothing to worry about,
