  • Alien number (any F1- student category)

    hello,
I am an international student and a year ago I applied for OPT and I got my EAD card, I did not use it because I decided to just complete my education, so I had to return the card back to immigration. of course I did take a picture of the card just for the record.
Now, I am filling for an adjustment of status based on marriage, and in the forums, I see that I need to include alien number, so do I still have to put my EAD card alien number or I can just skip it because I haven't used the card and as I mentioned I sent it back to the immigration office as it was required...
    Thanks in advance!

I don't think it's going to matter much, as you will be issued a new alien number. If I recall correctly, they want any alien number ever issued. I might be wrong.

Your alien number doesn't change. Once it's assigned to you, it's yours.

I have read a couple of posts from people saying that the A number changed. Maybe they didn't include the number in their AOS application? or name changed?

I think it is better you include it in your AOS application and the additional note space towards the end of your form you can give a short explanation. All the best in your application.

That's possible. I've had the same one since the start but I always add it to applications.

A number can sometimes change. I have two different numbers. (Ive been on F1, OPT, H1, AOS)

For the form, use the latest one you have which is the one on the OPT card.

With my experience, A-Numbers is an Alien number which is unique and assigned it to only immigrants not the non-immigrants. International Student is a non-immigrant.

                    Not correct.

When you get an EAD on F1, you get a A number, which OP had.

I was a F1 student on OPT. When I filed for my adjustment of status, I included the Alien number that they assigned me for my OPT work permit even though it was already expired. When I received the receipts from USCIS after filing, they assigned me a new alien number. So it does not hurt to list your previous A-number, it probably makes USCIS to look up your previous records easier if they want to do that.

Similarly to the previous poster, all my previous F and J visa related EADs had the same alien number, which I listed on my AOS application. My name has been the same. A new A number was issued to me.
