Hello all,
My husband and I had our green card interview this morning and I would like to share it with you. I was too stressed over the last two days and promised to myself that I'll definitely share my experience with other people first because it might help them to not be worry too much and second, because I did not find a good answer for the concern that I had which was Medical Exam form (I-693) validity!
So we did our medical exam last year (June 2018) and based on the previous 1 year rule, we first thought that it had too be renewed. I know that there is a new regulation as of November 2018 that makes the form valid for 2 years instead of 1 but there also different scenarios that some might not fit in this new rule. All these scenarios are fully described on the USCIS website! I had read many people experiences that even though their form should have been eligible for the 2 years but the officer still asked them to submit a new updated version and it means adding more waiting time to this whole process. I was hoping that this was not going to be an issue for us so I printed the regulation from the USCIS website and took it with me to the interview. I assumed that because the civil surgeon signed the forms not more than 60 days before we submitted our documents we were good but you never know how the officer who interview you think of it and this would concern me!
Anyways, we were present for the interview 30 min earlier and 10 min after our arrival my husband was asked to go to another room. His interview took about 15 min and then I was interviewed separately. We literally took 2 backpacks full of documents that we were asked in the notice and we were told by other people. The officer was so decent, friendly and nice. He started with personal questions (my name, birth date, my parents' name and day of birth, where and when I was married, my husband's name and birth date, my job status, our lawyer's name and location, my last entrance to the US) and tons of yes/no questions. He didn't ask for any of the documents we had taken with us and also nothing about the medical. At the end of the interview he said we think everything is fine and you are approved for the green card. He then stamped my passport and said that we will receive the card in 7-10 days.
Again, the main reason that I had too much stress was not being sure about the new I-693 validity policy that I believe is confusing for many people. Make sure you carefully read about this rule on the USCIS website, ask your lawyer about it if you have one and also take a copy of this new regulation with you to the interview in case the officer is not fully aware of that.
Do not worry, stay positive and don't let negative thoughts and talks freak you out!
Good luck everyone...
