Hi friends. I just passed my AOS interview so I wanted to share my experience.
Marriage to USC, applied in Sacramento, CA.
Submitted application in December 2018.
Received EAD & AP in July 2019 (super long wait)
interview scheduled in late September 2019.
interview date is late October.
At the interview, we waited nearly an hour past our scheduled interview time to be called in. The IO was very serious. She did not smile at all during the 30 minute interview.
She asked us things on the application form: my birthday, our address, our jobs, our wedding (When, where, how many guests, which family member came). She asked my husband where I went to school and what are my degrees in. And what's my parents names and if he has met them.
I had a J-1 and a lot of F-1 visas. She asked me when did I first arrive to the US, and the sequence of the schooling.
She asked us about our relationship. We told her how we met and gave her a quick timeline of the major events (met, became official, moved in, bought house, wedding, honeymoon, etc.) But didn't go into the more romantic details. We were pretty nervous because of how serious she was.
We mentioned that we like to travel so she asked us where we have gone together, the timeline of travel (like when did we visit where, how many times have I visited his family for Christmas, etc).
I printed about 40 photos in chronological order, with captions. She flipped through them very quickly, kept them, but didn't open the wedding album we brought.
We also gave her the latest mortgage, water, cell phone bill, joint tax return, insurance, etc.
During the interview, we forgot a few things. My husband hesitated on my birthday (because it's a day apart from our wedding anniversary, so he gets confused). I forgot that we have a roommate (she usually keeps to her self), and forgot to mention my distant family that came to our wedding. A few things like that but we reminded each other. Neither of us could remember the apartment number of the place that we rented together for 6 months so we just said we don't remember.
We got most of the questions right tho. She was very keen on the dates of things and would ask repeativite questions to make sure that our timeline lines up.
I did apply for immigration once before, but failed because I essentially fell victim of a scam. She focused in on that and asked me several questions on the detail of the case. I am entirely not at fault for anything in this case and it is a completely separate event than me meeting and marrying my husband. I wish I had made that extra clear, but I was a bit nervous and just gave the information she asked for.
At the end maybe she mentioned that she'll go over the material, but I honestly don't remember if she said anything. She seemed a bit angry the whole time so I was worried for the rest of the day.
The next morning I got notification saying that my case was approved and card in production!
I hope this is helpful. Good luck to those who are waiting! I first came to the US 12 years ago. It's been a long way but I'm so happy I finally have residency!
