  • Will I receive a SSN at the same time as my green card?

    Hey there,

Last week, my husband and I went for my green card interview and I was approved on the spot by the officer. He said my Green Card should get to me within two weeks. I want to start working ASAP since I haven’t been able to during the entire process (I am adjusting from a tourist visa and was never given a work permit), so I was wondering if you guys know if the SSN comes at the same time as the green card or not?

    thank you!

If you didnt apply for work permit, then I dont think youll get a social. Once you get your gc, go to ss office and apply for one. Just bring your gc and another form of id to be sure, then youll be fine.

Even if you applied for the work permit, but never approved, you may not get the SSN.
Just follow what BayAreaCaliAOS said. I think it takes less than 2 weeks after your visit to the SS office.
If somehow they are in the process of sending you the SSN card, they will be able to tell you the number assigned.
