  • I-751 requesting more evidence of bona fide marriage

    Hello!

First are foremost, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum section. Secondly, I apologize for the long post I'm about to make but we're doing everything we can at this point to fix this. I'm a man from Sweden who visited the US and got married to a beautiful American woman in March of 2016. I applied for a green card later that year and got accepted. 2 years later, in 2018, our marriage was going strong (and still is) and we had to apply for the I-751, Petition to remove conditions of residence, which we did. We got our first response today and it's asking for more evidence to prove that our marriage is bona fide.

    What we sent in:
    • Copies of both of our driver's licenses (same address)
    • Bank account statements (individual checking accounts and our shared savings account)
    • Form 1040 joint tax statement for 2016/17 (Printed copy from Turbotax)
    • Health insurance (wife is covered medically under my health insurance)
    • Joint auto insurance policy statement for the insurance of our vehicles
    • Car lease statements (not jointly leased; under wife's name while I made automatic payments from my checking)
    • Lots of photographs of us together

What they didn't like about what we sent:
    • Bank account statements were not jointly owned (strange to me since our savings account is jointly owned, maybe we don't do enough spending on it?)
    • Photographs didn't have event descriptions or dates on the back (we only included location and month, we thought that would be enough)
    • Health insurance statement did not indicate a joint policy (not sure about this one either because it states my wife is clearly under my insurance and I'm paying monthly for it)
    • Tax documents did not appear to be filed with the IRS (think we can fix this one, what we took from this was that we showed what we were going to send to IRS, not that we actually did sent it)
    • Not all submitted evidence lists both your name and your spouse's name

We believe we can fix the health insurance, taxes, and photographs. As well as adding affidavits from our friends and family.

My wife has most of her expenses paid for by her family while she was in school (graduated May 2019) and as such, we don't have much in terms of jointly owned items or property. We live with her parents to be able to save money to buy a house, which was planned for next year. This obviously bit us in the rear-end as that's the evidence that they're requesting.

There were some things we were planning on doing within the next year like combining our bank accounts (we originally opened separate checking accounts to cash in on some account-opening bonuses), combining our cellphone plans to one (her family currently pays for hers), and leasing a new vehicle (she's still driving an older car).

My question to you guys is if we do these things right now, is it going to look suspicious since we just received our letter for more evidence or could it help our case?

Really nervous about this one, any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you for reading.
