  • RFE question! Help please

    Hello everyone,

just got an RFE letter in the mail today...My RFE says that they need something from my join sponsor:

Even though we submitted his tax documents for the past 3 years (he’s retired), they are asking for this:

“please submit a complete federal income tax return submitted to IRS for the most recent tax year. If you submit a transcript, it must be a “tax return transcript” from IRS.”...

so my question is, what is better? A tax return Transcript or is it ok to send a copy of a tax return that was generated by turbo tax?

I will be grateful for any responses! Thank you in advance!

I'm not sure about invoices...what kind of invoices? From my situation my Joint Sponsor is a retired veteran, so what I submitted from them was their VA benefits letter, Retirement military pay letter, Retiree account statements that shows both military benefit being received and of course 3 most recent Tax Return Transcript from the IRS site. I didn't receive an RFE

If you can get any kind of document that reflects his retirement pay, like retirement benefits letter and bank statements that would be good to submit along with the Tax return transcripts.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your reply. My joint sponsor is also retired so we submitted his SS letters and retirement income letters as well as last three years tax returns. But now they want tax return for the most recent year again. Not sure why!!!

as for the invoices, that would be for my husband. As he does not get a regular paystub, he sends an invoice to the company and they usually do a money transfer into his account.

Did you send the regular Tax returns from turbotax initially with your package? if so then probably that's why they are requesting the Tax return transcript from the IRS site. It's better evidence to show they actually did file. So that plus the SS letters and retirement letters should suffice.

For your husband I think if you show get about a few months worth of bank statements that has the regular money transfers to his account. Also his Tax returns

In the RFE, What exactly did they ask for other than Tax return transcript from Joint Sponsor?

From my joint sponsor they only asked for the most recent income tax return. Nothing else.

as for my husband, he didn’t file taxes for the past three years because he was unemployed, but they didn’t ask for that. Just the pay stubs or other documentation proving income plus en employment letter which we already submitted with the application, so should we just send the same one? I guess the invoices and bank accounts will have to do it.

Ok yeah so send the most recent Tax return transcripts (2018) or the past 3 Tax return transcripts(2018, 2017 &2016)if possible from the Joint Sponsor. Just in case! Also I don't know if some of the retirement income from your Joint Sponsor is "Non-taxable" so it doesn't show up on the tax return. With my Joint Sponsor, only the military retirement was taxable and was shown on her returns. So I had to make a note that the VA Disability compensation was Non-taxable. To let the officer looking over the case understand why it was not on there. So If that applies with your Joint Sponsor as well let him write a quick letter stating the retirement income is Non-taxable.

From your husband I would say submit a letter acknowledging why he didn't file taxes because he was unemployed( if you hadn't already),send the invoices and bank statements showing his regular money transfers.
