  • Proof of marriage for interview

I am afraid we will not have enough proof of relationship because my husband and I currently don’t have a joint bank account, rent/mortgage or any payments together. We’re staying with his parents so we truly don’t have many expenses.

    things we do have are,
proof of health insurance for me (he’s the policy holder),
we have a daughter together and all the paperwork that says he is the father
and photos of the last 3.5 years of our relationship.
Drivers license with a matching address

Do you think it’ll be enough? If not, what else can we do? My interview is next month

See I read that if you open an account last minute it may look weird to Uscis. Plus there wouldn’t really be any statements since I don’t have a job and won’t be using it until I do? Same with a credit card, I haven’t established any credit and they won’t give me one because I’m not employed.

you already have a daughter together, and all the photos, you are in a good situation.

You could add a power of attorney document for health care and finance on the pile. Its easy to make and should be notarized. Google power of attorney healh care directive+ state and you can get a word copy to download.

Additionally you can be added on this bank account as a joint owner. The bank manager can print you confirmation statement.

Does he have a credit card? He should have you as an authorized user.

Baps I strongly suggest opening a joint bank account. Account balance does not matter...just make sure you have joint checking and saving accounts and start using that account to pay your bills.

Hi, as long as you have other sufficient evidence establishing your relationship, lack of shared assets shouldn't be a problem. Nowadays more couples choose not to mingle their assets together, in fact, my spouse and I signed a prenup before the marriage, and we keep all of our assets separated including checking and saving accounts, and credit cards. However, we do have the same health, dental and auto insurance. We have pictures showing the length our relationship. Car registration, license and our separate bank accounts showing the same address, etc. We never had a problem with our interview, the officer didn't even ask for any additional documents we brought.
