Did you get married to a U.S. citizen or a foreign national?

When your dad filed for you unmarried, you had the first preference in family-sponsored visa. Now that you are married, when/if you notice the USCIS, you are no longer going to be in the first preference. Married kids of U.S. citizens belong to the third preference, which can potentially set you back many years.

However, if you got married to a U.S. citizen, your spouse can file for you directly which will be much quicker.
