  • Greencard - APPROVED!

Just wanted to share our interview experience last week - it was really quick and I would say it lasted only 10 minutes. We front-loaded the officer with a lot of evidence so I think that helped a lot. Out of all the evidence we brought, the officer only took the 401K, statements from our 2 joint bank accounts, joint tax filing, rent lease, rent insurance, vaccination certificate of our dog which has both of our names on it, electricity bills and internet/cable bills.

The officer was initially stern but his mood changed and he got a lot nicer after reviewing the additional evidence that we brought. He then asked us questions such as how we met, names of our family members, when did we get married, who went to the wedding, when our first date was. Then he proceeded to ask us questions from the I30 and I485 which took only about 2-3 minutes.

I did not get approved on the spot during the interview last week, but was approved yesterday. Hurray! Total processing time for me is exactly a year, when normally it is 1 year and 6 months for my field office.

My advice for everyone who are about to submit their application or who are waiting for their interview is to gather as much evidence as you can for the interview and if you can actually submit EVERYTHING with your application then that’s even better.

This community has been very informative and helpful and has provided so much support while I was waiting for the interview. I’m so lucky to stumble upon Immihelp! Please always stay positive and be hopeful and best of luck to everyone who are waiting!

do you think USCIS will need to review if new evidence documents are given at the interview ? And then may not get approval on the spot.

        Thank you!

I think it all depends on the officer designated to you. While the officer who interviewed us ended up being nice, I can tell he’s a little rigid. Our officer most likely wanted to review the new evidence he took from us thoroughly hence we didn’t get approved on the spot.

And then there are officers, based on other users’ experiences here, who will approve your case on the spot or the following day even though you only submitted new evidence the very same day of the interview.

              Thank you! That makes sense!

I might need to submit the required evidence documents at the interview, since I didn't front-load my application. So was confused how they will review the new evidence documents before approval.

The waiting game for the approval drove me a little crazy (lol) because I read here that some took months to almost a year after the interview to get their cases approved. I’m lucky it’s just a few days for me!

I hope you get an easy going officer! Of course the target is to get approved on the spot or the following day, but stay hopeful if it turns out that you’ll have to wait for more than a day or two.

Also, make sure to put your new evidence in a MASSIVE portfolio to send a visual message to your officer that you have new things to present to him and that you are prepared. I have a feeling that our officer had plans of grilling us which explains his initial stern attitude, then he saw our massive portfolio, reviewed the new evidence and his mood completely changed. Phew!
