However, that was in 2017 and it seems that in some states the wait for documents might be longer than the times in others; the same was true in 2017.

Overall, while under immigration proceedings avoidable trips, appointments or plans should not be made. The USCIS processing times might vary, and documents might arrive in time for some, but in many cases the document timeline is unpredictable. As such any process with USCIS should take precedence over any other intent and 'avoidable' personal plans.

I understand. My wife and I have an immigration lawyer and she believes it’ll be February at latest when I asked. The cruise isn’t my personal plan bit another family member who didn’t know / think of the immigration process. We applied in October because our lawyer was confident about the time frame. She said that I’d get my EAD / AP in time. Our date that she put on the form, said March 1st.

british_guy I re-read this thread and I think we are missing some information:
        - do you have a valid Visa? Some visas are dual intent and you can travel abroad if the visa still valid
        - is your AOS for employment or marriage? Mine is EB, applied by the end of November 2018, biometrics 5 weeks later and received EAD/AP in second half of March 2019.

Lately I have seen more and more reports (forum posts) from people with FB (marriage) that don't receive the EAD/AP and they receive the GC in 5-9 months.

I have read a couple of posts from people from the UK that the FB process is very fast (less than 5 months), I don't know if that is always the case. Good luck.
Nov 2018 - Package sent - EB - Texas Service Center
Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021
        ---
All my posts are based on my experience or information I read on the forums or the USCIS website. I may be wrong. Please consult a professional.

I don’t want to be a party pooper but there’s a possibility that it may take a while before you get your EAD. Your lawyer should know better that the current waiting time for the EAD is 4.5-8 months. I got mine in almost 7 months. I do hope that you get yours sooner so you’d be able to join the cruise on March.

Ok we can and should only hope for the best. I will keep my fingers crossed for you with many prayers. Hopefully if at the end of the February you are still waiting then I hope your other family member will understand, but let them know ahead of time incase it can be re-scheduled or refunded. All the best.

Well, those 90 days is an average, EAD is supposed to be adjudicated within that time.BUT,because recent processing times get raised and officially posted by USCIS,it basically kills those 90 days timeframes right now, between 5,5-7,5 months. I had biometrics appointment on September 4th, and still nothing... crickets....nada....

I think it’s really case to case. My first ead app was filed Aug 1 2017 (yes, 2017) and i didn’t receive my ead until February 2019 - 18 months later. For AP, I filed March 25 2019 and my AP was approved April 14 2019. So that miraculously took less than 20 days.
my i485 wasn’t approved on the spot and since it was taking a while i was ready to reapply for ead/AP and my lawyer informed me about an average wait time of 5-7 months or so

Valid visa or not, DO NOT leave the country without the AP in-hand, if you do your I-485 is considered abandoned/denied.

Not for H1 and other visas. I need to be specific with my answers.

I do not have a valid visa, no. I’m in limbo. I came to Colorado on the ESTA which allows you 90 day’s of travel and spoke to an immigration lawyer during that 90 days and she said I could apply for an “adjustment of status” and concurrently apply for all those things like I have mentioned.

so yep I’m married, FB? (Not sure what that means entirely). My status now on USCIS on I-485 Saudi “fingerprint review was completed” and that was on November 18th, same day I did the finger prints.

So you filed from Colorado? So did I! I'm also from Europe (Belgium) and filed in April.
Also came in on an ESTA. It took me pretty much exactly 5 months to get my EAD....
But it ALSO took them 4½ months to schedule my biometrics. Once that was over I got my EAD in hand about 2 weeks later.

4.5 months for biometrics? We are still awaiting our notice as well (Pd 10/7/19). I filed an SR on 11/15 for the missing appointment notice but haven’t heard anything yet. What steps did you take to get it scheduled?
