  • Interview soon - no financial evidence

    Hi All,

Our interview is coming soon, we are married 1.5 years and together 3.5 years in total.
We decided when we got married not to combine bank accounts or to open one together, not even file taxes together, the main reason is that my husband has kids and he is still supporting them by paying their schools.
    The evidence we have:
    1. Lots of pics - including family and his kids
    2. Documents that we traveled together (cruises and flights)
    3. Letters from close friends (notarized)
    4. My W2 with our address
    5. Letter from our building that we are both residents in the same building and apartment (the lease is on his name)
    6. Magazine with our names on it with the same address
    7. Licenses with our address

Does anyone have any experience with an interview without having any financial evidence?

    Thanks!

Well, what I can tell you is that the immigration officer that interviewed us asked for joint financial documents, such as joint leases, insurances, joint accounts. A joint bank account is a very strong piece of evidence. Good luck!!
    Filing Date: July 09, 2019
    Biometrics: August 08, 2019
Biometrics (fingerprint review completed) August 09, 2019
Case is ready to be schedule for an interview: September 19, 2019
Interview has been scheduled: October 16, 2019
Received Notice in the mail: October 21, 2019
    Interview Date: November 20, 2019

I strongly recommend you open up a join checking/saving account. Account balances does not matter. They will ask for joint banking account (s) and that is a strong evidence of a bona fide marriage. Good luck.

We just had our interview without joint finances.... the only thing we had relating to finances was my husband last will and testament and his life insurance. That's it. No joint bills or anything like that, just our lease with both our names and we got approved You definitely have more evidence than we had!

It would be best to have joint financial documents, but you should be fine especially if you get a nice officer. It’s a case to case basis, not all couples are privileged enough to have a joint bank account/financial documents.

Just be ready to explain why you don’t have any joint financial documents in case your officer brings it up or you get grilled about it.

It’s never too late to open a bank account. Open a wellsfargo and maintain 1,500 in the balance so you dont have to pay any fine. It’s never too late.

My husband and I have no joint bank accounts but got approved. I don’t have the feeling you have to have financial assets together especially if both have a solid income. Worked for us - we provided travel, pictures, health insurance .... good luck

People here saying that it might be ok. But what if you get a strict officer? An officer who’s for joint finance evidences? Why take the risk when you can go all out and have more chance of getting approved on spot?
I myself, overload the io with evidences, and got approved on the spot. Just my 2 cents.

Having separate bank accounts is totally fine, which I also do. I do however plan to open a free checking account at a local credit union where we would share the 50% each on the rent and utility bills. So you don't need financial evidence really, but you can show like the lease, junk mail addressed to both of you, drivers license with the same addresses, costco/sams club card, joint health insurance, car insurance, and of course have your utility bills under both of your names. All these help..

I would find any of the many banks with no requirements for a checking account. I think requiring a minimum balance or charging a monthly fee for checking is wrong.

Why dont you just add your partner as a beneficiary on the bank accounts? that way you will get statements on both of your names. After interview you can remove it.
