GC and Passport First Name Missmatch

Okay guys I have a question. My mother is about to get her green card...on her birth certificate for her first name she got MA. Which is an abbreviation for Maria. I know she talked to an attorney and he told her she should not worry about this issue. However, I am concerned. When she gets her GC she will have Maria MiddleName LastName. But my concern is when she travels to Mexico and come back wouldn’t she have any problems since she got MA. on her passport and Maria on her GC? Please help. She had tried to correct this issue on her birth certificate, but the Mexican Consulate said there’s nothing she can do about this. So what y’all think guys? Will she have any problems when she enters the US with her passport reading MA. and her GC Maria?

If they are strict and the documents sent (birth certificate and passport) say MA., then the GC should say MA.

Does she have any other document that says Maria and not MA.?

I don't think the original birth certificate should say MA. most of the time the original say Maria and then all the copies were typed as MA.
The consulate can't do anything, to see if the original is correct your mom needs to visit the local registro civil and ask for a birth certificate that is a copy of the original book. Sometimes they don't have the original book but a copy and the original is in the State capital office. If the original information is correct, then there is no need to fix anything and she just needs to ask to correctly update the database with her name and get a new birth certificate with the correct spelling.

If for some reason the original book says MA. instead of Maria, then she will need to follow the State requirements to change MA. to Maria (I think it varies from State to State but I'm not 100%).
It shouldn’t be hard because in Mexico it is common to use MA. instead of Maria.
