Hey yes, they should be notarized ( otherwise anybody could’ve written it) it should also be typed to be presentable. And yes to a copy of their ID it should also be notarized as well. Passports, greencard or drivers license will suffice. The format of the letter should be sequential ie who they are ( the person that’s writing it and their relationship to you), how they know you, for how long they’ve known you, how are they sure you’re a real couple, memorable events that they can remember sharing with you the couple. And if you have a picture with that friend or family member also attach it. The affidavit should also be formally written. With the full name and address of the person who’s writing it along with a contact number or email.Marriage AOS (from tourist visa)

It’s not the same case for everyone, but the immigration officer that interviewed us didn’t bother with the notarized affidavits we have from friends and family. He did not look at them and gave them back to us. Most of them are more interested in the joint evidence that you have with your spouse such as joint bank accounts, lease, insurance, 401k, and such. Affidavits don’t hold much value as evidence because anyone can write or make those. But it would be nice to have the affidavits as well just in case...
