  • Sponsor Domestic Violence - Interview Scheduled

    Hi,

I am a USC and we are doing the adjustment of status for green card.

My Wife and I had a out of hand domestic violence incident during the adjust of status process which the case has been dismissed and expunged from the court. I was arrested and charged but it has since been dismissed. The DV incident happened after filing.

We have our green card interview next month and I was embarrassed to tell my lawyer about the incident since it happened after our filing to the USCIS. What should we do? Should I tell my lawyer or is it too late? Do I need to bring any letters because the expunge record does not exist any more and I cannot find a copy?

    Thank you

I'm sorry you are going through this unfortunate ordeal. I think it's best to be completely honest with your lawyer no matter what. It's understandable you are embarrassed about it...but if he/she doesn't know an incident like this happened to you... you are doing a disservice to yourself to not allow your lawyer to represent you the best way possible, when you do disclose this information at your interview. Your Lawyer will be best to advise how to address it at the interview.
