  • AOS MARRIAGE BASED experience

    • March 2019 mailed my AOS packet and EAD application along with my medical check up
    • April 2019 had my biometric appointment
    • August 2019 status changed to CASE READY TO BE SCHEDULED FOR AN INTERVIEW
    • October 2019 I received my EAD card
    • November 2019 status changed to CASE WAS SCHEDULED FOR INTERVIEW
On December 19, 2019 I arrived to my interview 30 min early (Sacramento, CA) I handed the security guard my interview letter, they told us were we had to go, then we checked in. They took my fingerprints and checked my ID. We waited about an hour until we were finally called in. The IO was extremely friendly, he asked to see my husband’s and my ID and then proceeded to ask us a few questions from the packet. He then asked us how we met and if we had any other evidence, which we gave him family pictures, lease agreement, bank statements, our kids baptism certificates. The interview seemed to take about 30 min. Once we finished he said that he would need a copy of a document that I had forgotten to bring with me so he would be mailing out a letter in order for us to mail a copy of the document I had forgotten to bring with me. On December 31 I received an email stating that my card was being produced, so I’m guessing they don’t need that copy anymore. The whole process took me about 9 months and my journey is finally over.

good luck to everyone still waiting!!!

Congratulations and thanks for posting the experience.
If you don't mind, can you mention which document copy was required? (i.e document you forgot)
I am taking copies of most of all docs but still want to be careful.

Wow your experience was amazingly fast! My office is San Francisco and we have been waiting for more than 1 year!

Thank you! From what I was explained by the person who helped me fill out my paperwork (not a lawyer) she told me since my parents applied for their green card when I was a minor I was able to adjust my status through 245i without having to leave the country since I was brought in the country without inspection when I was just 5 years old . Since my husband was born here he petitioned for me. During the interview the IO asked me if I had any proof that my mother was here around DEC 2000 which I did but I forgot her packet at home. He did tell me that he had already seen that she had her green card but he needed a copy of any document she had used to prove that she was living in the US around DEC 2000. He then told me he would send out a letter and I would need to mail back a copy of the bill my mother had used to prove she was present during that time. I guess he changed his mind on sending out the letter because on the 31st my status changed to new card being produced and today I finally got an email stating that my case was approved and I would be receiving a notice in the mail. I know it’s a bit confusing but if you’re not adjusting through 245i I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

Thanks for providing detailed answer and this is extremely helpful. Sometime I feel that I am carrying too many documents but after reading your experience, I feel like it is OK to have more docs.
