Hi everyone,
My husband and I got married on October 3rd, 2018 and we sent our documents the following month. By the time we got married, we’ve been together for more than 1.5 years.
He’s from Israel and I’m the US Citizen. Our interview was scheduled for September 12, 2019 and although we were confident (now I know we were being naive) that they were gonna recognize a truthful marriage when they see one, we prepared a bunch of evidence and brought everything.. from a letter written by my dad, joint bank accounts, life insurance, car insurance, tons of photos, credit cards together, even our will. We are the kind of people who like to have everything perfectly organized when it comes to money, legal stuff, etc and reading about the interview experiences we wanted to bring everything we could think of so that they didn’t need to send us a request for more evidence.
Our interview was in Las Vegas and the officer that took us was not friendly since the beginning. He never introduced himself or made us feel comfortable. He asked a couple of questions together and then separated us (which of course we were not expecting). He asked many questions and tried to trick me and scare me many times!! He made comments like “Are you sure there was a proposal?” (Of course I’m sure, it was MY proposal!!) and “Do you know we will investigate and if you are found to be lying you will go to jail for 10 years?” He made our interview a total nightmare. With my husband he focused more on asking him why “he lets” me travel so much without him.. as I have about 3 trips outside the country since we are dating that I didn’t do with him, but he missed to focus on the fact that I’ve been traveling my whole life and I just happened to marry a man that won’t stop me from doing the things I love!
After all his attempts, and 1 hour of questioning each, all of our answers still matched, and he took copy of all of our documents, took some photos, and told us we would receive a letter in 3-5 days. He gave us the letter saying we should wait 120 days and online the case just says Interview was completed and case must be reviewed.
It’s been almost 4 months and we still haven’t heard anything. The interview was honestly traumatizing cause we were not at all expecting that, and after seeing how hard he tried to make us fail I wouldn’t be surprised if he sent our case to fraud. I have nothing to fear, they can come to my house anytime they want, my marriage is real and there’s nothing to hide, however the wait seems endless and makes me lose nights of sleep just thinking what we did wrong.
I consulted with a lawyer and she said maybe he’s pushing it until the last minute, or maybe the paperwork got stuck. She says it’s very unlikely that he sent it to fraud given the fact that we answered everything matching and we provided enough evidence.. but she said he might call us for another interview.
Now I’m even worried our case looked “too good to be true” with everything we provided ... is there such a thing?
I really think this whole process is not event about your case, is about your interviewer.
Interview was in Las Vegas, Nevada
Officer: Madrid
Any thoughts would be appreciated. When the 120 days are passed next week, should I contact my congressman? Should I contact them first? This office doesn’t allow InfoPass appointments. There’s nothing I would like more than to file a complaint about the way he treated us, although i know that’s not gonna help my case anyway and he didn’t really do anything outside of the legal window.
Thanks for reading me and for your advice.
Good luck to everybody undergoing a similar situation!
