  • Timeline for parents GC application

    Hi,
I am a US citizen and have filed a Green card application each for my mother and father while they are visiting us on a B1/B2 visitor visa.

The applications have been filed with USCIS with a priority date of Oct 9 2019 and we have received receipt notices for both. We completed Biometrics in mid-Nov and the case status changed soon after to - "Case was updated to show fingerprints were taken". It has been 2 months since this update so I wanted to know what/when is the next expected update since my parents do not need an interview.

Also, I wanted to know if we can file for an advanced parole for them to leave the country temporarily. The instructions for advanced parole seem to indicate that this only applies to urgent humanitarian reasons/personal or family emergency.

If anyone has a similar timeline, it would be great to hear from you.

    Thanks!

I too filed for both my parents with a priority date of october 10, but my parents had to go for fingerprinting twice, due to low quality fingerprints, and they have not heard back since their last fingerprints were done in december. I fear the second set of prints also did not go through as we never got the update 'fingerprint review was complete.' How do you know they do not require an interview-did you get a notice? I filed for their advance parole with the original documents but have not received any thing so far.

I have also filed for my parents AOS on 12th Nov 2019. All forms I-130,485,765 ( EAD), 131 (AP) have been filed together. Done with their finger print in Texas on 12th December and all fingerprints are attached to their 485 & 765 forms. Very surprising Manib11 you had to go through multiple fingerprinting for your parents. Usually the officers who take prints need to role the fingers from left to right so the print comes out right. If incase you are called for 3rd time ask them to role the finger properly.

aramani you should have filed the EAD & AP ( advance parole) along with your I-485 for your parents. Why did you not file them as there was no additional cost for the same ? Did you not hire a lawyer or any form filing agency to guide you ? It's still not late to file it to get your parents the travel authoirization while they wait for the AOS decision. Hope this helps..

Any idea how long parent based AOS cases are taking? Looks like some October filers, marriage based, are already getting their interviews for Feb.

I am not sure if USCIS started processing applications faster but my parents priority date was June 26th and their interview is on Jan 21st 2020....took around 7 months

Why do your parents have interview. US citizen parents do not require interview?

From what I read, sometimes they send interview letters and other times they just approve the GC without an interview.

Yes they did get RFE but it did not delay the process...Even for people with out RFE its taking 7 to 10 months...look at the field office processing times, its will take close to that time..

Many of USC parents are getting interviews...

Based on the USCIS Policy Manual Chapter 5, all AOS need to interviewed unless waived by USCIS...sharing the link to this policy...
All adjustment of status applicants must be interviewed by an officer unless the interview is waived by USCIS.

Parents and Unmarried Children <21 yrs age are eligible for waiver but depends on USCIS

Hello folks here is our time line:
Applied October 10th for both parents AOS.
First finger prints November 11 for both
Second finger prints Dec 12 for both
No update that finger print review is complete...
Received notification Jan 30th that EAD approved for both
Received notification Jan 31st that AP approved for both
Received notification Jan 31st that my father's I-485 is approved!
Fathers green card in hand by Feb 7th,
                              No word on my mom.
We are worried now why my mom's case is lagging behind. Anyone has experience with this where you file jointly for both and one gets approval and other is waiting. And how long the wait could possibly be. Any input would be great.
