All the best on your interview. Here are two links with the information that you are looking for with our checklist of what we took. The first link is our experience (we got on the spot approval) and the other is a link for several others who shared their experiences in immihelp as well. My advice is leave nothing to chance take all the evidence you wish to take.

          Thank you for this!

What if my husband and I do not have joint accounts yet and our utility bills are under his name still? What would be a really good proof to show?

With utility bills you can call in or visit the office to get your name on a bill or two. You can also open a joint credit card, Tire Card like NTB, Best Buy credit card, stationery Credit Card Staples, Furniture store card like ASHLEY etc. Also get your name on the lease, car insurance or car ownership (if you wish). It could also be a plus if you both share the same dental, medical insurance as well as the same doctor. That way both your names will be on the insurance and on the forms that you sign. Also, if one person has an account, let's say your husband has an account at Petco, PetSmart or any other place. You may offer to pay the bill after a purchase was made, that way his name will be at the top of the receipt but your credit card number and name will be at the bottom; you keep this as evidence for USCIS. Also get an affidavit, from someone that can vouch for you both being together in a harmonious and meaningful relationship. Please look through the link I shared there are several unique ways to show committed relationship through documentation.

Regarding our joint account. They did not scrutinize our joint account. So you might get away with not having one; but I was more comfortable that we had a joint account, it is easy to set up (you can still keep your separate personal saving or checking account). Also, if you wish you can place his or your name (on his) personal account if opening a new joint is out of the question. Also we filed our taxes jointly (this is almost always a critical aspect of the filing requirements) so we covered all bases. Just a point to note, when we mentioned to our interviewer that we had a joint account and showed her all our joint financial evidence her facial expression changed from neutral to relaxed. She became downright friendly after awhile as she saw and said that she wished all persons came with as much evidence as we did as it made her job easier.

At this stage, it would be best that you have more evidence than less; so work diligently to get as many as you can even if it is to have a joint account; this is highly my preference and suggestion. The earlier you have these documents in place, the better it is for you both so that the beginning date of what ever shared business you have will show some sort of longevity.

            All the best.
