  • Health Insurance while waiting for AOS (CR-1)

    Hello everyone,

I was wondering if I need to have insurance on pending AOS. My wife is a U.S citizen and she is currently covered by Cover California Insurance. We sent our paper on 06/12/2019 and I got my work permit on December 2019. I'm currently working at a restaurant but they don't offer health insurance, and I don't think I need health insurance anyway, and it is quite expensive in California.

No. You do not need it.
I was worry too, because I applied on November 4, 2019.

You are not required to have health insurance. But it is a good idea generally to have health health insurance. You are eligible to get insurance from Covered California too; you can present your I-485 receipt (see #22 here).

I meant health insurance for tax purpose though. I'm not worried about having joint health insurance as proof of bona fide marriage
