  • Update SSN card?

I have a Social Security card that was issued when I was still a student (F-1 visa) and it had "valid for DHS authorization only". Fast forward to today, I just received my EAD card and was wondering if I need to get a new SSN card (i.e. to remove the conditions)? I am still in the AOS process waiting for my GC interview.

Anyone has any idea on if I should do it, and if so, should I wait till after my GC is approved or if I can just go ahead and do it now?

You can only get an unrestricted Social Security card once you get a green card.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

If you never had an SSN and you selected the option to share your information to get one, then yes, you will be getting an SSN a couple of weeks after your EAD (time varies).

But I can still work wherever I want with my EAD and not have to go through any USCIS application/approval right?
