  • Medical Exam - what exactly is involved?!

So we are progressing with the I-485 and our next step is this medical exam.

Can someone enlighten me - what exactly happens during the exam? I haven't ever had one!

You need to find an approved civil surgeon https://my.uscis.gov/findadoctor
That page also has some information about the medical exam. You can check form I-693 too: https://www.uscis.gov/i-693

$200 is nothing, many places charge you $400, $500 or even more. I didn't know the health department is an authorized USCIS option.

Health department is not uscis authorized you can get all the tests done there and shots and then take results to civil surgeon which is uscis authorized

Ah, you are saying that some people pay $200 extra for tests and shots. Good information, thanks.

Yes - it must be a doctor from the USCIS list!

I have an appointment for Monday morning, phew.

No im not saying that..im saying that in medical you will need tb test gonorreah syphillis etc..shot records. You willl need a td booster. All that they done for free for me at health department. Civil surgeon will charge you a fee for just filling out a piece of paper plus they will charge you for blood work and all the tests.

Oh, ok. When I asked about the test all the civil surgeons in my area said that they need to do the tests. In other words, I was not able to get a lower rate by bringing the tests done elsewhere.

I'll look into this because our medical exams may expire before our PD became current again. I don't want to pay that much again. Thank you.

We traveled about 2 hours to find one that was very fair— there’s no legal issuing accepting labs from another place. $200 and all vaccines and labs done elsewhere.

They're ripping you off if they say only labs from their office are accepted.

Its absolutely wrong for them to say that they wont accept! Every one i called said i can bring in anything i have so they dont have to do it. The tests are valid for a year and you have to send filled out form 693 within 2 months once uscis receives your medical form its valid for 2 years i think
