How to file for AOS?

Hi, I'm pretty sure there must be a thread here that explains this all but I haven't been able to find it so I'm asking for you help, so I want to file for my AOS , I came into the country legally and my husband is a citizen although I have been here for 3 years now so I definitely overstayed, I have barely now saved the money to just pay for the fees so it will so grand if i can avoid using a lawyer, I wanna know what are the steps for filling, I need to fill the I-140 or the I-485, and and sent documents with it like what?

My wife filed within the 90 days when she came here on her K-1 VISA so I am not sure exactly what you need to file but I think the I-140 is for AOS based on Employment.

Hi, thank you so much for your response, I am just so confused about the whole thing, I think that I have only 180 days to file after visa or I-94 is expired which is frustrating if so cause I'm way over due on that, second I thought that I only had to file for the I485 but now it seems that is more than that I don't know, I have been waiting for quite a while to be able to file due to money stuff and now that i have the 1100, i think i'm gonna have to try a lawyer.... also I understood that a package has to have proof of marriage pictures taxes and stuff like that. i'm too frustrated.
