I485 Interview Before Receiving I765 EAD???

Hello,
I just received notice that my I485 case says I am ready to be scheduled for an interview, but I still have not been approved for an EAD (i765). I thought I was supposed to get my I765 first as I have been waiting to be able to work. Is this normal?

“Ready to be scheduled for an interview” is a status that just means USCIS has all your files. It does NOT mean you’ve been scheduled for an interview.

The correct status for when your interview has been scheduled is “Interview was scheduled”. It could take a month to 2 years before “ready to be scheduled for an interview” will change into “interview was scheduled”.

September 4 - USCIS Biometrics were taken

October 24 - We received a RFIE

October 31 - We mailed our RFIE back to the USCIS
