Originally posted by kkate7617 View PostHi guys! I have a question about social security card. My EAD should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday, does ssn arrive in mail also at some point or do I need to go to social security Administration office to get it? A friend of mine got her EAD 3 months ago but never got her social so I was wondering. Also when I check I-131 it says that it was approved, unlike EAD that’s says it was mailed out. Shouldn’t I be receiving a combo card? Thanks!

I'm still waiting, filed in Feb.
Even though they say my ACS is open, when I went in for emergency AP there was NOBODY there. I even asked if they started rescheduling biometrics and the officer could not give a straight answer- said "they are working on it slowly". Which to me meant no.Processing at NBC

So I very odd thing happened today- got approved for my I-765. I say this is odd because I did not get biometrics done, still have not been rescheduled and while I do have finger prints in the system it is from years ago when I first got my H1B. I once called USCIS and they told me prints that are too old will not be applied.
I want to be happy about this but now I am worried the card won't actually get produced/mailed because I have not done the biometrics. I see a few others have had their EAD/combo cards approved with biometrics, but has anyone actually got a card without doing the biometrics?

First, congratulations! That's great news.
Sounds like you're on the same path as me – here's my recent timeline:
July 24 - I-765 and I-131 approved without biometrics
July 31 (maybe a day or two before) - received approval notice in the mail
Aug 31 - Biometrics appointment (received letter in mail around Aug 17)
Aug 31 - by evening, I-765, I-131 and I-485 status updated to "fingerprints applied"
Sep 1 - I-765 status updated to "card has been mailed"
Sep 1 - I-485 status updated to "case ready to be scheduled for interview"
So it seems as if my I-765 case was approved, but then card production was on hold until fingerprints were applied. But things have moved rapidly over the last 24 hours.
Worth noting that USCIS said due to the backlog in card production, the I-765 notice of action approval letter could be used as proof of authorization, but this was only on cases approved up until August 20. They may have updated that order, or perhaps card production is getting up to speed now. If you're anticipating waiting a few weeks for biometrics, talk to your attorney if you have one to ask if you can use your approval letter as proof of work authorization in the meantime.

I was approved for EAD 7/24 without biometrics, but no movement on card production until after my biometrics appointment 8/31 – now so much progress in 24 hours! Hope those of you who are still waiting see some progress soon.
2/18 Filed petition (I-485 - relative, I-765, I-130, I-131)
2/25 Fingerprint fee received
3/18 Biometrics scheduled - cancelled, first day of COVID shutdown
4/1 Biometrics rescheduled and cancelled again
4/9 Courtesy notice (yellow letter) regarding medical
7/24 EAD and travel doc approved - without biometrics
8/20 Biometrics appointment scheduled for 8/31 and 9/2 (this seems like a mistake, but the appointment letters referred to different cases - I went on 8/31 and they dealt with both)
8/31 Biometrics taken
8/31 By evening, I-765, I-131 and I-485 status updated to "fingerprints applied"
9/1 I-765 updated to "card has been mailed"
9/1 I-485 updated to "case ready to be scheduled for interview"

Had interview on August 31, we were separated due to restrictions on the amount of persons at the office at the same time. First the petitioner and then the applicant. It was very brief no complicated questions, was approved on the spot. GC in production now, we were told it was going to take about a month to receive it because of covid related delays. But at least we are glad that the process is over now.Married to USC
