  • Intended immigrant as joint sponsor

    Hello ya'll.
I hope everyone is keeping well and doing the washing hands and social distancing drill in these frightening times of Coronavirus threat!
As I am filing I-485 AOS form along with a reinstatement application for revoked I-130 petition due to death of my mother. The petition was already approved when she died, so while me and my family were legally present in US at the time of her death and were maintaining a legal status, now according to USCIS Bulletin board is the time (oct 2008) that we can file for AOS and since we just recieved a revocation letter from USCIS, we are eligible to file the reinstatement written request with some proof of docs+AOS file I-485 together.
My question is that I am earning 90K annually, but we need substitute sponsor to file affidavit of support I-864 on our behalf. My sister is a citizen and she is going to sponsor us. But can I become a joint sponsor? Then how will we file this form?
can an intending immigrant co-sponsor? How will this work?
I suppose I will be filing a form I-864 too...am I ? Or will that be just one original filled and signed by my sister?
I shall be submitting my Tax returns, Bills, home owner's lease document, life insurance policy, etc anyways with my reinstatement application request anyway!!
so how will this all work???

No, you cannot be a joint sponsor. Your (the intending immigrant's) income can be counted on the sponsor (in this case, the substitute sponsor, your sister)'s household income on her I-864 as long as you are working legally in the US, without needing to file another form.

You, the immigrant, fills Form I-944.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
