  • I just got an SSN in the mail but don't have EAD

    Hello,

So my EAD was approved at the beginning of this month but they sent it with a mistake, so I had to send it back to them to be fixed. My case status says they have fixed the issue but it's been 12 days and they still haven't sent it back to me yet. Today my SSN came in the mail and I'm just wondering if I can use an SSN to get a job, bank account, or drivers license? Does anyone know if I can get any of those without the actual EAD in hand? Is just having an SSN enough?

    Thanks!

Your SSN card should say "Valid for work only with DHS authorization", so I think you can't get a job because you need DHS authorization (EAD). Bank account I guess it depends on the bank. Drivers license, at least in Texas, you will need the EAD too.
Nov 2018 - Package sent - EB - Texas Service Center
Day 1 - Package received at the lockbox
Day 999 - Card delivered to me - Aug 2021

Opening a bank account really depends on the Bank and maybe the state. In California, BOF will let you open an account on your foreign passport and visa + your foreign DL, no SSN, EAD or State ID/DL required. Chase on the other hand needs to see a utility bill under your name, electricity or phone, apartment lease is not accepted.

        Hi,

I'm currently student with F-1 and just got my EAD card 2 weeks ago. I have 90 days to find a job with my OPT.
Unfortunately, coronavirus situation affects every business and I can't find a job. What can I do?
Can I submit an extension request regarding unfortunate situations with coronavirus?
If you can guide me I would greatly appreciated because I don't know what to do but it looks like It's very hard to find a job during this crisis.

Most grocery stores are hiring right now. Their employees are exhausted from having to restock shelves so much
