  • Petition for parent i-485 and i-130? Parent is already in usa on tourist visa

My wife is a naturalized citizen and we want to file for her mother who is already in USA on a tourist visa. Am I correct that we need to file both a i-130 and i-485 together?

The i-130 can be filed online, is it ok to do that one online and mail in the i-485, or is it better to mail them both together?

Also, it's asking for her A-number, do we supply what it used to be, even though she's a citizen now and no longer a permanent resident?

If you file I130 online you need to wait for the receipt to file I485 (I think). I don't think she needs to put the A number now that she is a USC. Follow all the instructions for I485, there are several forms that need to be filled too and they can deny I485 if the package is incomplete.

It's best to mail in both I-130 and I-485 together so the I-485 is filed sooner.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Do you mind providing updates on your situation. I am in the same boat as you but I am not sure if it’s okay to apply for my parents while they are visiting the US on a B1 visa. Thoughts?

You can file, i-130, i-765 and also I-485 togather, since they are immidate relatives, and the green card processing can take up to an year, because of that you should be granted the work authorization, they will process your i-765 first if all looks well then the i-130 and the last step i-485, keep in mind immidate relatives are considered to be first on the line so there is no visa limits ( wait time ) hope that helps.
