  • had my AOS interview - great!!!

I want to say thank you to the site, it was very useful, concise and all the different experience shed light on what to do and not to do.

My experience and fears and timeline:

my fears included the fact of my conviction in UK which had been spent. I was afraid it would affect me and all, but it did not.

    Timline:
    Notice date of I-797 - 24 Feb 2010
Biometrics appt: April 14, notice date -March 17
EAD Approved - May 6, card recieved; May 24
AOS interview May 27, notice date April 20th
Approved immediately after interview. Green cad to follow.

My experience was good, my interview was elderly, kind and laid back, commended me on my honesty, as I had initially (mistakenly) said No in the conviction questions on my form, but resent anothe form and note indicating the mistake. He mentioned though that, it would have been fine, if I had not done that, and said yes when I got to the interview.
Adviced that I should not vote until I become a US citizen.
It was good experience for me, and I am glad and thankful that its over.
    Thank you to all.
AOS based on marriage to USC.

Hope this helps people, with how to feel with arrest and convictions.

Hi! Glad to hear everything went well. So I have a similar issue but we didn't resend the I-485. My husband, the applicant, has a DUI and was arrested in Ireland. We did tell the embassy in Dublin when we applied for K-1 visa but when it came to AOS and the form I-485, we said No about being arrested but we realized our mistake and should have said yes. So what do you think? Should we go ahead and tell officer right away or wait and see if should mention it?? I really hope it doesn't hurt our chances for approval. We don't even have court records, but copies of police certificates. The embassy of Dublin has the original copy and it would be a pain in the arse to try to get another origianl copy in Ireland...so far and takes too long. We have our interview one month from now. crazy!

        Hi WUTASU,

I think the best thing is to tell the truth, though I am not a lawyer, but the interviewer was not too concern of when I corrected the mistake, he said if I had arrived at the interview and the mentioned the mistake it won't have been a problem. But for me, I did not even mention the conviction when I initially applied for a visa, but I observed my file as well as what the interviewer was looking through and all that on the day of the interview. They would always/probably ask the YES and No questions, which included conviction and arrest. But in your case, the embassy have a record of the conviction, so you have said yes somewhere, and it could just be a mistake while filing the form. Say yes, because of the future. the interviewer mentioned that since its driving conviction that its not considered something to make me inadmissable. I did not have all the documents as well, I had to write and call and do a pre-paid envelop to get it sent to me here. Lucky I got it before interview.

the questions I was asked, when did we meet? Any documents to provide co-living, and the yes and no questions. that was all. I thought the questions would be much, but to my suprise it was not. Thank God for that.

Remain Calm and observe the interviewers attitude and disposition, but try your best to tell the truth.... just say yes.

        Hope this helps...

          Documents:
Letters sent to us from church at christmas
          Leasing agreement
          Joint tax return copy
          bank statements
          health insurance with me included

that is basically all, though questioned on the lease, as we could only include me a few weeks before interview, he asked for old one, explained that I could not be included until we had Tax ID number or Social Security, and we could only get that recently, so were able to do the leasing.

          Hope this helps.

Thanks heart36! I appreciate the feedback. Can I asked where you got your interview? Our interview is at Santa Ana, CA. So I hope they won't be too harsh on us.
