  • Nursing With Green Card ( Question HELP)

    Hello,

I'm wanting to pursue my lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. I am currently waiting for my Green Card however. My question is: can I become a nurse with a Green Card? I don't want to go through school only to find out that I have to be a citizen to work as a nurse in America.

If anyone has done this please give me whatever insight you have.

    Much Appreciated!

Yes, you can! I even know a few nursing students who are here on a student visa. I think there's a special pathway for them to get a GC after they become registered nurses. But either way you should be fine with a GC

Islandgirl93 That's what I thought, but the school I'm wanting to attend is being super stubborn and saying I have to have a Green Card, otherwise I'll have to pay out-of-state tuition which is double the price. I can't afford to pay double tuition right now. I'm located in Missouri, so maybe it's different in other states? Or does it just depend on the school?

Im from St. Louis MO and went to nursing school while on being AOS pending I 485. You have to tell them that you do qualify as a state resident ( for which they will ask you some documents) then you should be fine.

Kinkopiya Thank you for the information! Would you mind going into more detail on what you did and how you went about doing it? I'm very new to all of this and some of it is confusing. The school I'm wanting to attend is also not being very helpful, so I'm wanting to know how to be assertive and what to show/tell them to get into the program.

            I really appreciate it

I sent email to admissions at the college but since they have zero understanding if how USCIS works , they kept insisting that I need green card or be a citizen. I was persistent though and told them that I can study under my current status( AOS) so they finally decided to forward my email to the dean in international admissions.... who seemed to be a sensible person. She requested me a copy of the notice of I 485. I did send a copy of my current EAD along and driver license. All this helped that yes I can take admission. But then later they did ask me documents that were for needed as proof of instate tuition .... eg: marriage certificate( god knows what that has to do with tuition), property tax , federal return for previous year etc

I would suggest that if someone isn’t listening to you is coz they don’t understand the process. You should demand that your case to be handled by some one who knows their crap.
