  • AOS sent but relationship has become abusive

    Hi all,

I have recently applied for change of status as I got marrief to a US citizen but things have changed drastically. He abuses me physically and obviously verbally and I have no idea on what to do. My family members are in Canada who are not residents yet as they are trying to make it work and I am originally from Dubai, UAE but I cant go back without a Visa and I am of Indian nationality. If I have to go anywhere for safety then its Canada and I dont know how to do it or what to do exactly. I nedd some kind of guidance as I'm alone in this country and dont know how to get out of this situation I just want to go back to my family

I am sincerely sorry for what you are going through. I believe at this point you should consider hiring an immigration lawyer to see what your options are. You may qualify for applying under VAWA or engage in introspection regarding what's best for you... whether you want to stay in the US alone in an abusive relationship or stay with family. I hope all works out well for you!

If he is abusing you physically then immediately call the Police and report it. Nobody deserves to be abused and its illegal in all 50 states. Then get a lawyer

You are mixing up things here , Actually you are a citizen of India ! And do not have any right to seek protection from United Arab Emirates or Canada as you are not a citizen or permanent resident of either UAE or Canada. For all your family related conflicts and abuses just call the police. If you want to leave USA you are free to go to India any time.

If you leave USA you will not ever for any reason get a green card. Start documenting the abuse. Call the police and put him in jail. Or go to the shelter you can apply for VAWA from there. They will help you
