  • Waiting for new biometrics appointment - everything on hold until then?

    Hi!
We submitted all paperwork in January 2020 (I-485, I-131, I-130, I-764, ...) and originally got a biometrics appointment scheduled for March. However, due to COVID, this appointment had been canceled (at least the office was closed). We did not hear back from USCIS since then. On their website it is stated they would reach out to us with more information about the cancellation of the biometrics + a new appointment once available. This has not happened yet. We're still waiting for EAD card and other stuff.

What are our options other than waiting? Also, as far as I understand, the biometrics appointment is required for them to proceed with all applications. I just assume they won't waste taxpayer money on proceeding with applications until your fingerprints come back and you are not a criminal.

Is this assumption correct? Will COVID in the end just delay the entire process by X months or is there any work the USCIS can do at the moment without having the finger prints?

Unfortunately, you just have to wait until this COVID stuff clears up and they can reschedule your appointment. I suspect there will be a huge backlog with these ASC appointments.

It is so hard to know what are they doing at the moment. I would say they are not going to do anything with your case until biometrics are done. We got our EAD/AP after biometrics in September 2019. They are working on current employment based petitions who had their interviews scheduled for March/April (but never happened) and I’m sure they have a huge backlog of previous applications who had biometrics done. Unfortunately you ll have to wait and see what happens after they re-open.

I share in the same “plight”; I’m not sure if there’s something to be done other than to wait especially since biometrics is yet to be done.

It’s all good. Continue to keep your head straight and remain calm.
