  • "USCIS had put a ‘hold’ on US-based green card applicants"

    Hi everyone,

After almost 100 days since I filed, still no news, no EAD, no Advance Parole, no biometrics appointment, no possibility to get a drivers license : basically no progress. And today, I end up on this article showing they had actually put green-card applications (US-BASED!!!) on hold.

And this cost us $ 2000 ?!! Is that all the consideration we deserve?

I am pretty angry as I am posting this few words. I thought it would be liberating to post it here, I hope you can forgive me.

Everyone have a wonderful day no matter what, and good luck for this killing wait.

I Understand your frustration, as many of this feel the same frustration. I was also surprised to read that they had put a hold on processing green-cards, if I knew I wouldn't have frantically checked the "check status" website every day ;-). I am not angry though, Covid19 is an exceptional situation which affects all of us, even our public services.
There should have been some better communication about this for sure.

Well I am angry because it is objectively unacceptable to hold people hostages for months, sometimes years, the way they do.

Moreover, I feel angry because they have been ringing the alarm for two months : if they don't get $ 1.2 billions by the end of summer, they will fire more than 10K employees which will dramatically affect the process and approvals of all applications.

And what do they do while they still can process (fully paid) applications? They stop processing them.
They stopped even though they kept on saying publicly everywhere, they would not.

And of course the only thing we can do right now, is keep our mouths shut and smile whenever we interact with them, praying we will soon be allowed the basic right to live a normal life with our husbands/wives etc.

So yes COVID-19 is exceptional and dramatic and dangerous, but our legal situation, especially during those times, also is.

I am honestly outraged, but maybe it's also because I am French...

Old news! The agency already said that they're resuming GC production.

I am not saying this is old or new news, just that is is unacceptable and unfair.
They should not have to "resume" GC processing, because they shouldn't have stopped it!

Also this is the link I initially shared, is it a mistake? did you want to share something else?

It’s unclear if the USCIS actually halted GC processing. I have seen cases be approved during this interim, and that rollcall article was really the only one that detailed that situation. I couldn’t find other ones that corroborated their reports.

Unacceptable and unfair... that seems about right for this administration

Thanks everyone for your support, it's needed more often than not

Let me play devil's advocate for one moment. When USCIS closed its field offices and Applicant Support Centers a few months back, USCIS could not complete two of the most important steps in the process (biometrics and interviews). As such, it would have been illegal for them to issue permanent resident status to those who filed the i-485. I know its frustrating, especially for those who are waiting on EADs, but unfortunately, USCIS was not in a position to complete family-based applications.

Let get a different prospective: You can use the word "Unfair" but not "Unacceptable" because Immigrate to the USA is not a right but a privilege- the same way it is in France.

Think about my case; I have been waiting for 19 years ( Legally)- F1, OPT, 6 years H1B and TPS ( I am front Haiti).

I am finally current after 12 years of waiting ( F3 from my Dad).

The Funny thing is that I sent my application in May and they had rejected it twice because I did not file the I-864 but I am EXEMPT from filing I-864. However, the "Stupid" people in the Chicago processing center does not know I can I use my 40 qualifying quarter of Social Security. Therefore I had to resend it for a 3rd times with my I-864 ( which is not needed).

I am still waiting for them to accept it.

I am FRUSTRATED beyond myself since I did not make any mistakes. It is UNFAIR but not Unacceptable.

The fact that you had to re-send your package 3 times because the USCIS can’t figure it out falls pretty solidly under “unacceptable” imo.

If they reject again, perhaps try an old copy of i864W? I know it is superseded by new i485 but perhaps it causes the lockbox to look and think deeper. Crazy what they are doing to you.

                            Hi again all!

Thanks for your messages, indeed sometimes we need to put things into perspectives, am a little utopist but I think nobody should have to go through so much (@tibwa so sorry for you!!) to get what I still consider as a basic right, the one to establish a home wherever you want, need or simply are.

Especially when it costs so much money... I thought the capitalist world was all about "cheap = bad service / poor quality, expensive = good service / vaguely better finish", but again it's very European-naive of me haha

I feel calmer tonight than this morning, obviously, but still think it's unacceptable to change the already pretty hardcore rules in the middle of the game, without informing the players at the table !

                            Have a good night/day everyone
