  • Form I-485 (AoS) Seattle Office Filers <3

    Hi guys,

I checked the USCIS website and my heart dropped when I saw that the "Receipt Date for a Case Inquiry" regressed to January 8, 2018 and the current wait time for family-based AoS petition is now at 8.5 to 30 months.

I currently have the EAD "combo card" that expires in Jan 2021, which means I need to have it renewed soon if I were to keep my job.

As of Nov 25, 2019 my case "is ready to be scheduled for interview" but with what's happening right now, I really don't know what's gonna happen next even though I'm married to a USC and in a loving relationship. The uncertainty has been weighing us both down.

Anyone else on the same boat as me? I feel like I need to wait 2 more years to get my GC.

No worries. We can only control what we can. However, that is an extremely long wait period but take heart. I applied for removal of conditions in July 2017 and got the interview in July 2018. We secretly wished they took longer so that we could have avoided the removal of conditions phase. Oh well, there are other benefits to waiting:

    a. You will have passed the 2 year wedding anniversary (if not already) at the time of the interview so you should get a 10-year green card based upon a successful interview.
    b. You have all this time to compile a fool-proof stack of evidence of your 'loving relationship'. However, USCIS is not concerned about the emotional connection within our union they want hardcore financial, medical, physical assets as proof of bonafide marriage.
    c. You have enough time to bond and prepare for your interview, they watch applicants on camera while in the waiting room, so your chemistry and communication should be above par. While you wait in the room to be called for an interview, do not forage through your documents and appear to be 'reading over', 'swatting', or memorizing the information. Use the time you both have now to be intimately acquainted with the documents and forms you will or have submitted.

In the meantime keep monitoring your combo EAD card for its expiration date and apply within 90 days before it expires. We applied for the renewal of our EAD and that's when USCIS fast-tracked our interview, so instead of getting a second EAD we got our interview. Also, check on the expiration of your I693 medical report. We knew ours would have been expired a the time of the interview, so we took a new copy at the interview; which was all they needed to give us the approval. So, it's advised to prepare for your interview. See our experience at our interview below. We handled our evidence with extreme meticulousness, as business professionals. All the best.

Wow thank you so much! Your reply is very informative and encouraging!

It’s not like we want to rush things, we don’t mind waiting if that’s really how it works. We just can’t help but worry a little what will all these suspension announcements these days. But we still trust the process of course!

We plan to renew my EAD combo card (expires Jan 2021) either last week of July or 1st week of August. Hopefully what happened with you guys would happen with us as well.

And yes, we have hardcore proofs of our union like health insurances, work benefits, join statements etc and we file taxes jointly. Thanks for reminding us about this.

      Just a few questions:

1.) Do I need to do another medical exam or could we just ask for a copy from our doctor? I did my exam in July 2019, our I-485 priority date is Sept 30, 2019 by the way.

2.) What is removal of conditions?
