  • DH is in second night of orientation, at the same place I work :-)

The only thing we needed for a green card was an official copy of my divorce decree from my first marriage. For some reason my attorney never gave that to me. USCIS received that today via Priority Mail. No update on status, yet.

    • I am trying to check DH's USCIS status, but am getting a "Could not authenticate your request" error message. Anyone else seen this?

      • Hi,

We completed the interview on 04/26 and the latest update from today is that the card was picked up by usps, expected delivery Monday! So happy!

So thought I would share my interview experience as it was a little bit different from what I've read here and on other forums.

We've been together for 7 years, married for 6 (lived together in another country and here), no kids. Interview was in a field office in Miami.

Interview was scheduled for 12:30PM, we waited for about an hour before we got called by an officer. She asked where our lawyer is as we have one but decided not to hire him for the interview, the officer explained we need to sign a waiver. She then said I would need to leave as she needed to interview my husband first as he was petitioning for me.

He was in there for about 45min, I must admit I got a bit upset as it was just us and 2 more couples that got separated. None of us had lawyers, it could have been a coincidence of course but sharing my observation. Honestly, he could not remember all the questions he got asked as there were a lot, but some of them - tell me how much she's paid you and we can finish with this quickly?! (no need to say his answer to this question), my mother's and father's name, spell my mother's name, he explained to her he's not sure what the spelling in English is, my mom's name is complicated . There were some savings from my account from the country we lived before together that I had transferred to him last year as I did not have a bank account here yet (we used the money for the lawyer and the application ), the officer asked him about that several times (why I sent him the money). Got asked when and where we met and some other dates from our history together (like when we moved from one city to another back in 2017), if I've worked here...etc

He came out and I walked back in with the officer. She sat me down and asked me what name I want on the GC. My name is long and we decided it would be better to drop my middle name. She them passed me a sheet of paper and asked me to start writing down our history as she was asking the questions. By the end of it I had written 2 full pages (A4 format) with details from 2014 until now. Where, when and how we met (I only remember the month, not the dates, who I was with and he was with when we met, the name of the friend I was with, when we met again, have I met his parents/family, who was at our wedding (she asked me to identify people from some of the wedding photos later), specific dates after the wedding (like when we moved in together), when he started working back in 2016, name of company he worked for, why we moved to another city in 2017, about the move to the USA....basically our whole history. Sometimes she did not even wait for me to answer before asking the next question, it was not easy speaking and writing but I was not nervous at all - after all that is our story and I have no problem sharing it.
At the end she said it was going to be approved but not today as there was no time, asked me to sign a piece of paper for dropping my middle name and that is pretty much it.
As she was walking me outside, she called my husband again and asked him who he was with when we met back in 2014 - I guess to confirm what I had said to her.

We had brought some additional evidence but we did not get asked for absolutely anything - not even birth certificates or passports. We had sent a lot initially so that might be the reason why.

When we were driving back home, the status changed to name updated and card production, the following day changed to needs review and then again to case approved. Today it says it was picked up by usps.

I would say the officer was trying to intimidate my husband initially, not so much me but we both left the office smiling that afternoon (by the way we were last to leave, there was no one left there apart from the officers at the main entrance).

As long as you're saying the truth and the relationship is real, there is no reason to worry. After all, they are there to do their job and I guess have to ask tough questions.

        Good luck to all!

                          • Got my interview yesterday and I think it went pretty well. It was faster than I expected and the IO did not ask much of what I thought she would, pretty standard questions and all related to the forms themselves not some much about the additional documents we sent in.
Here's how it went... We got there a bit early and wore masks the entire time even though the mandate says you are allowed to not wear one after vaccination. There was also a plexi glass on her desk separating us from the IO and her door was open during the interview for air flow. We were interviewed together.
We got sworn in and asked for 2 forms of original ID's my husband showed his state ID and birth certificate, I showed my passport and an expired state ID (brought my original birth cert. as well but she said the expired state ID was ok).

She started with my husband and I think she was trying to intimidate us. She was very serious and went through questions REALLY quick. These were from his petition so was asked:
                            - His full legal name and any nicknames (always though this was kind of funny but I get it)
                            - His birthdate
                            - My full legal name
                            - Where I am from
                            - My birthdate
                            - If he has petitioned for someone in the past
                            - Current address and since when he's been there.
                            - She confirmed addresses for the last 5 years and around what dates he had moved in and out of each.
                            - How many times he's been married
                            - Any children or other marriages
                            - Our wedding date
                            - His job and past jobs - places, what he did and the dates

                            Questions to me:
                            - My full legal name
                            - Where I am from
                            - Current address and when I moved there
                            - Who I live with
                            - Addresses and dates for the last 5 years
                            - If I have any children or if I'd been married before
                            - If I have applied for AOS before
                            - My husband's full legal name
                            - Husbands birthdate
                            - Our wedding date
                            - When did I enter the US
The first time I EVER came to the US (I came as tourist when I was a kid and could not remember the exact year)
How many times I came as a tourist
First time I entered the US on F1 student visa
Last time I entered the US
How many times I entered the US on F1 student visa and dates/years
***All these were very confusing to me because I visited family multiple times and the couple times I came as a tourist I was a minor so I did not have to deal with the visa paperwork myself so I had no recollection of exact years. Definitely try to remember dates and years prior to the interview!!
                            - What degrees I got while on F1 and the graduation dates.
                            - Went through my job history, dates and what I did for work
                            - If I have a job at the moment
                            - Went through ALL yes/no questions in I-485

                            Questions to both:
                            - Asked if we had additional information to give her (gave her our joint tax, new lease agreement, renters insurance)
***We brought more original documents (correspondence from family and photos but she said she didn't want them)
                            - What we'll do for our anniversary (it's coming up next week)
                            - Who took our wedding photos
                            - If we had any questions and that was it!

She didn't say if it was approved, she said she has to go through the medical exam and revise the additional documents we gave her and make sure everything is in order. She also explained we would be getting a conditional green card and what goes next with that. She took notes throughout the whoooole interview and I'm still anxious not having a definite approval but I'm glad its at least one step closer to being over.

I really hope this list of questions helps, the IO definitely went through them quick and its hard to think when you're nervous.
Best of luck to the ones still waiting for their interview!!

                              • Congrats to all who got their interviews and approvals!

I'm still waiting for my interview. EAD and AP were approved back in Jan and Feb, but there has been radio silence since then. I-485 status still shows "Fingerprints were taken" and there has been no updates.

Anyone still in this position, or should I start to get worried?
Currently on H-1B and applying for status adjustment.
