  • Being a Joint Sponsor

    Hello,

I'm going to be a joint sponsor for one of my friends. I noticed they are asking for a mailing address and telephone number on the I-864. I'm wondering how frequently they will be contacting me about the form?

I'm more than happy to help my friend, but I don't have the time to be burdened beyond filling out this application.

    Thank you,
    Alex

If you fill out the form, it is possible they may need to contact you. So, you may want to consider if this is something you really want to do.

I want to do it, but I want to know.

I understand if there are special situations or circumstances (I'm fine with one or two, or "maybe"). However, I'm asking what is the norm? Like, do I get at least a receipt or confirmation (like an NOA)? Will they notify me when my contract ends? Will they tell me when my sponsored immigrant will change her status?

Basically, in a normal scenario, what (and how often) will I be mailed or phoned?
