  • Medical Examination Experation?

    Hello,

I have a I-485 interview on August 4th and am wondering If I'm supposed to have another medical exam since it's been a year since my last one? I sent in my last one with my i-485 package so they've had it for a year now, but I didn't know if it expires? The last thing I would want is to show up to my interview and be told I need a new medical exam.

If you are unsure (as I was at the time of my interview) take a new sealed I693. My interview was successful and in wrapping up the officer was getting ready to say that I only needed the updated medical exam and that she was going to request that I mail it in to the field office. Thankfully, I pulled it out and gave it right to her as I was prepared. I got approved immediately on the spot. So I would err on the side of caution and take the sealed new I693 form. It will not take up any space in your choice of transportation, and if you don't need it in the end, it will still not be any inconvenience to you. However, if you take it do not wait until you are asked for it. At the end of the interview let the officer know that you have the newer version and would like to add it to your file (just in case) or verify with the officer and get an assurance that they will need it. Either ways if you take it, make sure they get it. All the best.

Looking at your signature, your case was different, when you submitted your I-693 it was only valid for 1 year, so the day of your interview it was already expired and it was good that you had a new I-693. Now the I-693 is valid for 2 years, in this case, the I-693 will not be expired, so no need to pay again to get a new I-693.

Thank you for giving a response. I was not reflecting on my own case in blindness to the fact of the extended validity of I693. I was being practical that it would not hurt for the individual to take a copy along. The initial question indicated an approximation of a year of having submitted the I693 with the application; if he or she can still take a copy of the I693 to the actual interview, my advice was that he/she should. Several persons can get the doctor to re-sign the form without charge.

Thank you, I don't know if a copy will be enough, I think it should be another new original sealed and signed by the doctor if USCIS needs a new one. You can bring a copy if you want, but if the officer needs a new one for whatever reason, a copy will not be enough.

I have seen reports of medical exams as low as $120 and as high as $650. Is not practical for everyone to pay again just in case if their physical is still valid and unexpired. If someone going to the interview feels that having a new medical just in case will make them feel better, by all means, get a new one.

I am in the same boat. I got my medical in the first week of March 2020, as my interview was supposed to be on 19th March. But due to Covid-19 my interview got cancelled. Since I had not sent the I-693 along with my original application, I am not sure If I need to get a new medical done. I still haven't received my new interview date so not sure if I need to get a new medical and when.

From the USCIS site i got this , does it mean my medical is valid for 2 years?

If you sent your I-485 before your medical, then it is valid for 2 years. It must be sealed and the officer will review during your interview.
