  • Medical exam validity?

    Hi all,
So I finally got my rescheduled interview notice and under the "Things to bring" it states a copy of medical exam "Unless done within last year".
I filed in July 2019. And at that time the policy clearly states if you file within 60 days of your medical exam it will be valid for "Two Years". Why in gods name am I being requested to do ANOTHER medical exam? Or did they just decide to move the goal posts' again?

You're confusing requirements. (1) if your original medical exam was done in less than 1 year when you filed your original I-485, then you don't need to submit a new one with the I-485. (2) if you get a new I-693 while waiting for your GC interview, then the new I-693 is valid for 2 years, however it must be submitted within 60 days of undergoing the test.
Unless you get an RFE for a new medical exam OR if your original medical exam is more than 1 year old at the time of the GC interview, you don't have to repeat the exam.
    --Good luck--
Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.

I think they still have some forms that need updates. You have 2 options, a) don't bring a new medical and bring a copy of the policy manual in case they say something about your medical being more than a year old and b) talk with your civil surgeon, the same that did your previous exam they may be able to do a new one, no need of new vaccines, at a reduced price and bring a new sealed medical just in case.

There is no mention of that requirement on the policy manual. The only reference is that the signature must be at most 60 days before sending I-485.

Thanks everyone. That's the confusing part. I did my medical exam one week before filing my AOS last July 2019. My new interview is scheduled for late August (13 months after the original exam). So, from my calculation my exam should be still valid (24 months).

So why on my interview notice does it say I need to bring a copy of the medical exam? I hate inconsistencies.

So in my case I did my exam in July 2019. One week before my lawyer filed my AOS. To my reading of the policy, that exam should be valid for 24 months (2 years) which would be July 2021. Why am I being asked to bring a new copy of a medical exam?
This was after they cancelled my interview back in March. Which would have been WELL before the 12 months.

Yes, the policy manual indicates that in your case your medical will be valid until July 2021. My guess is that they are slowly updating the documents they send to users. The document you received still needs to be updated.

                Thanks!
Hope you're right. Seems like something they would have done ages ago seeing the policy changed in 2018.
