GC renewal - Travel and documents

It has been almost 2 years since our AOS was approved, we are preparing for our I-751 application next month. I only need to submit evidence since we got the GC right? Not from the beginning of the relationship? I know it can take 2 years to process so what about travel after the GC expires? We have the combo card but that expired 4/2019 so do we have to apply for an extension for that too? Or we can't travel until we get the application processed? After November we will have an expired combo card and an expired permanent resident card
