  • How to package the I-485 application?

What is a good way to package all the applications and supporting documents?

I have been watching YouTube videos, and reading articles about this, and leaning towards following strategy:
    1. A giant waterproof envelope to enclose everything.
    2. Sub-envelopes for each application: I-485 & supporting docs, I-765 & supporting docs, I-131 & supporting docs.
    3. A cover letter to be put inside the giant envelope, but outside the sub-envelopes.
    4. Have a 2-line description on a white paper pasted on each of the sub-envelopes.
    5. Have a cover letter inside each of the sub-envelopes.
    6. Have an index/title page before each category of evidence, followed by that evidence. For example, have a page that says in big font "Government-Issued Identity Document with Photograph", followed by a photocopy of an ID. Then a page saying "Documentation of Your Immigrant Category" followed by several documents that fall under this section. Title on an index page matches the title of evidences that are listed in the instruction pdf.
    7. On each index page, attach a sticky tag at the bottom, so it's easier to find things for the USCIS officer.
    8. Use a highlighter to highlight certain parts of the evidence that makes it easier for the officer to spot the relevant parts.
    9. Punch 2 holes at the top of every document. (this is one of the tips mentioned in USCIS form filing tips page).
    10. Use a clip fastener to bind together all the documents inside a sub-envelope.
Any thoughts? Could any of the above things actually become a hindrance to the officer?

    Looks like you have everything.

I, for one, didn’t use a highlighter but rather a sticky tag on every document - well labelled.

I also prepared a general cover letter spelling out the overall documents as well as preparing separate cover letters for each pack.

At the end of the day, the objective is to make the officer’s life as much as possible.
