  • Biometrics: Postpone or try walk-in?

Before I try to, would like to check with the group if it is a good idea.
It might be difficult for me to make the 8/24 appointment for biometrics - checking online I saw rescheduling request could postpone it by 3-8 weeks, so I definitely don't want to do that.

Anyone have any recommendations for me? Would trying a walk-in ahead of 8/24 be something that can work? The appointment is scheduled at USCIS San Marcos ASC.
USC filed AOS for parents on B2. I am not a lawyer.

I’d say go in on 8/20 or 8/21 and try your luck. Get there 15 minutes before they open, you never know, they might fit you in. But if they don’t, by hook or by crook, make it to your 8/24 appointment. Your case is moving at a very good pace, don’t mess that up.

It’s quite difficult to know if they’d allow you for an earlier appointment or not. In my case, my appointment was for 10am, I got there at 9.15, waited for some minutes, entered the premises and by 9.30 I was out. My ASC was virtually empty to the point that I thought to myself there’s no way the ASC would prevent me from taking my biometrics if I had come earlier (days) than my appointment. But then again, I may be wrong.

There’s no harm in trying; the worse that could happen is that your parents would be prevented from taking their biometrics.

For the rescheduling of your appointment, unless the reason is crucial, I’d say try and make; cos your case is probably the fastest I’ve seen and you don’t want to jeopardise that.

Went to USCIS ASC San Marcos this morning at the time they open (8am.) They did not allow us to go in. The guard at the front door mentioned that while in the past they accommodated such walk-ins, but due to Covid restrictions, they are not allowing anyone in ahead of their appointment date and time. I did request them to accomodate us given my parent's age, but that did not help either and she suggested us to reschedule the appointment.

Will find a way to make Monday 8/24 work...

Hope this helps others who might be thinking to do a walk-in, pls plan accordingly.

Thanks for the update. Yeah, don’t miss the 8/24 appointment. Call them an Uber if you can’t drive them. Good luck.

                Just making sure:
I only need the biometrics appointment notice and a photo ID. The I-797s received for the other applications are not required. Correct?

Correct, if your parents changed their name, it would be good to have a marriage certificate or any document of change of name, handy. Just in case, you're asked. But basically, its the appointment letter and an ID.
