Lost my job (do I have enough assets.)? Please help me!

My wife was here on a K-1 VISA and we married while she was here. We filed for adjustment of status and now finally received our interview date. It’s 10 days away. I lost my job during the pandemic and am struggling to find one in my area. We are the state with some of the highest unemployment and most cases of Corona. I don’t know what to do.
Our interview is in 10 days. I lost my job around April. I have been applying and interviewing for jobs ever since to no avail. Jobs around my area aren’t hiring as much as before. I am the sole sponsor for my wife. She is also pregnant and do mid September. I have about 16k in my bank. Is that enough assets to pass the interview.

If you have zero income, then your difference is $21,000 (for 2 people) so you need to demonstrate $105,000 in assets (cash, savings, house - if you have positive equity in it).

What are the chances of them asking about work? Is that a question they usually bring up? For my wife’s K-1 visa interview, they said to bring all documents submitted and they didn’t even bother asking her a single question or ask for evidence. They just passed her. Help me please ????.

For what it is worth, Im a USC and had interview for my spouse and was approved few weeks back and employment never came up but I am in no way well versed legally to advise either way. That was just our experience.

Can you link to me the document for a co sponsor, and should I just bring it for the interview or mail it? There is not way if I mail it of it getting to them in time.

It’s the same I-864 form that you filed. And do not mail this form, just have it ready and take it to the interview with you. So if your job comes up, you can show them that you have a joint sponsor.

You make the joint sponsor file an I-864 Affidavit of Support just like you did, with their own proof of income/assets, etc. They don't need to be at the interview.

Make sure the joint sponsor has enough to cover for her household + the immigrant. So let's say you use a relative that has two underage kids but is single and is willing to help your wife then that makes the household size a 4. (Joint Sponsor + 2 Kids + Your Wife)

Today is the day of the interview at 1pm. I do have a joint sponsor, but his letter from work never came in and his copies of his W2’s never arrived either. I think it’s backed up because of Covid. I am super worried about this. I have his pay stubs and his proof of citizenship. I am super nervous. We have worked so hard to be here.

Good luck KingSijm. The majority of your interview should be about bona-fide marriage and less about employment. If it does come up you have at least something to show and if the IO needs more they can issue an RFE for the remaining documents.

Well ladies and gentlemen, he approved her. He briefly asked about my job and I explained to him I lost my job. He didn’t really speak about it after I mentioned that. But, he then called me and said that she is not 100% approved and apologized because he noticed that she is not up to date on her vaccines. He noted she is pregnant and can’t have any shots right now, but my son is due next week so right after that he said as soon as we can bring the document of her up to date vaccinations and her green card will be created. He confirmed the hardest part is done and we are pretty much approved after that.
