  • Question about I-485 header A-Number

    Hey friends,

My wife and I are preparing to submit documents to petition for a change of status from her OPT to a permanent resident. We had one question about the form I-485. In the header of each page, starting from Page 2, there is a A-Number section. I would assume that we should put her A-Number there, but given that the PDF does not permit text in that section and we can't find anyone mention this question, we wanted to double-check! Should we put her A-Number there or is this for USCIS use only?

    Thanks!

Download adobe free trial. I'm not a lawyer but I'd put (A-Number if any). It might helps to speed up the biometric since they have been using old biometric.

If certain fields on the form don't work, you can fill them out in print after you print out a copy. They specifically request you use black ink. CORRECTION: If you enter the A number in the first page up top, it will successfully populate all the headers. At least it does on my computer.

On a related note, I submitted my A number in the 485 that I'd used for various F1 status documents (like your wife). They assigned me a new number after they took in my docs. This is not to say that you shouldn't provide the number you already have but don't be surprised if they give you a new one. I called them about this issue back in August of last year, one month after we submitted all our docs. They said they'll look into it and get back to me. Well, they did get back to me with a formal letter, wait for it, in June of this year! Haha.
